NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates
Advise Your Reps: Members of SCOA will meet with the NCTE Executive Committee during its meeting on Wednesday before the Annual Convention formally begins Thursday, November 19. Email, text, or telephone your regional representative with any suggestions or questions your affiliate has for our national legislative and administrative body.
SCOA Sessions at NCTE Annual Convention: Bring your affiliate’s suggestions and questions to one or more of the interactive sessions that SCOA will sponsor at this year’s Convention.
- Session T2.06, Thursday, 3:00-4:15 p.m., Convention Center 206AB, State Affiliate Inquiry Teams and Building Capacity on the Literacy in Learning Exchange
- Session E.47, Friday, 4:00-5:15 p.m., Convention Center 205CD, Affiliate Representatives Meeting
- Session H.16, Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Convention Center 201AB, Affiliate Awards: Opportunities for Affiliates to Showcase Their Work to Support ELA (hints for applying)
Brag at Breakfast: Show up Sunday at the Affiliate Roundtable Breakfast at 7:00 a.m. in Room 103 of the Convention Center (with your ticket) for another chance to boast about your affiliate’s awards and accomplishments. In addition to presentation of awards, the event offers a chance to hear and meet NCTE Vice President Susan Houser and 2015 Teacher of the Year Shanna Peeples.
Panoply of Praise: All NCTE and affiliate awards appear on pages 24-29 in the online program.
Speaking of Awards: The Arkansas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts (ACTELA) introduced three new teaching awards this year: Community Literacy Service, Early Career ELA Teacher, and ELA Preservice Teacher.
NEATE Pioneers App: The New England Association of Teachers of English (NEATE) pioneered a conference app this year for “Empowered Teachers, Engaged Students: Building Capacity to Reach All Learners,” October 30-31.
Wish List? Please send suggestions for improving the monthly SCOA Newsletter to your regional representative. Its content, layout, frequency, and manner of distribution are topics of discussion during the committee’s meetings at the Annual Convention.
