“I value learning from people who are actually in the position I am in,” said Hollie Hampton from North Tama High School.
Nothing is more focused and teacher driven than the professional development provided by EngCamp. The one-day event hosted by the Iowa Council of Teachers of English was held at the Central Rivers Area Education Agency in Cedar Falls.
The schedule was built based on teachers’ interests, expertise, and needs, with eveyone suggesting topics they were interested in discussing, and some volunteering to facilitate those discussions in breakout sessions.
Denae Dieken from Holmes Junior High School in Cedar Falls marveled that the professional development day did not include acronyms and there was “nothing being sold.” She and others appreciated the hope and joy that encompassed the room of educators present.
The event was organized by ICTE Executive Board members Kara Betts, Kirstey Ewald, Colleen Flathers, and Melanie Wirtz.
