Four members of the ICTE Executive Board met with NCTE members from across the nation in Washington, DC in July. They discussed ways to strengthen membership, provide benefits to members, and promote strong teaching practices. Members also had the opportunity to meet with board members from other states to compare and improve practices within their own positions on the board and the work of their affiliates in general.

From NCTE:

Approximately 90 participants from 35 affiliates gathered in Washington, D.C. July 12-14 for the 2019 NCTE Affiliate Leadership Meeting.
Early arrivals on Friday had the opportunity to tour State Department diplomatic reception rooms and learn about the history represented by the amazing furnishings, paintings, and artifacts there. Later that evening, the leadership meeting officially began with a reception at the Folger Shakespeare Library, where affiliate leaders enjoyed participating in a Hamlet skit before viewing some of the library’s rare books and sitting down to dinner with author and guest speaker Matt Mendez. Check out the Twitter hashtag #NCTEAffiliates to see some of the fun!
Saturday’s meeting at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill focused on the sharing of affiliate success stories as well as ideas for increasing membership, strengthening support for teachers, and forming partnerships to further affiliate goals. The day’s agenda included presentations from affiliate leaders as well as marketing expert Rick Whalen of Marketing General and literacy expert Carol Jago of the California Reading and Literature Project at UCLA.
Affiliate presenters and participants who haven’t yet posted their resources and session breakout notes are invited to add them to this shared folder. Affiliate leaders who were not able to attend are encouraged to access the folder for ideas and inspiration!
