Katryn Dougherty, Teacher Writer
Kathryn began her teaching career in the late 1990s as a secondary mathematics teacher and has since lived in several states while raising her two grown daughters. From 2020–2024, she lived on Guam, earned her M.Ed. as a reading specialist, and taught both ELL and ELA before fully transitioning into her now–fifth year as an ELA teacher. In 2025, Kathryn moved to Iowa, where she currently teaches high school ELA at Exira EHK High School and shares her passion for reading—and her “identity as a self-confessed haiku-a-holic” with her students.
