NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates

Submit Those Applications–Due Date for Most Awards Is May 1
The Standing Committee on Affiliates (SCOA) has updated the submission directions and forms for affiliate awards.

The new process for the publications awards recognizes multiple publications instead of one. All the publications with excellent ratings will be recognized as models for affiliate publications to emulate. The coordinators of individual awards will gladly answer questions about the criteria and judging procedure.

Applications for Affiliate Excellence Awards are due July 15.

If you were unable to attend the Affiliate Roundtable Breakfast at the 2016 NCTE Annual Convention in Atlanta, you can check out who won awards last year by going to the individual award page.

Someone Special–Nominate an Outstanding High School Educator
NCTE affiliates are invited to nominate an outstanding high school classroom teacher for this national award. Each NCTE affiliate may select one person for this honor with the criteria being up to the affiliate’s discretion. Each recipient will be celebrated and recognized at the Secondary Section Luncheon during the 2017 NCTE Annual Convention in St. Louis. The award deadline is May 1.

Summit for Advocacy

Please join NCTE on Thursday, April 27, in Washington, DC, for the 2017 NCTE Advocacy Day. If you cannot travel to Washington, DC, the website suggests activities you can do at home. Also check out SLAM School for more specific activity ideas you can do at home and with your students.

Sum of All Regions–Affiliate Leadership Meeting (ALM) July 7-9, 2017, in Atlanta
Leaders from ALL regions can plan to attend this year’s annual leadership meeting (with NCTE’s cost-share for two affiliate participants). This year’s ALM will wrestle with a variety of topics–spanning membership recruitment to overall leadership–and will host a variety of external experts to contribute to the workshops. See the details on the NCTE website, including links to register for the meeting and lodging at the Omni Hotel/CNN Center.
