NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates

July 15 Deadlines–Annual Affiliate Reports and Application for Affiliate of Excellence Award
Blow Your Horn: Affiliate presidents and executive directors, please complete the annual report for your affiliate before July 15. The electronic form is available on the NCTE website. A separate form is available for student affiliates to file their annual reports. Your affiliate benefits when you fill in these surveys because NCTE uses the data to plan events. Topics for the annual Affiliate Leadership Meeting often come from the annual reports. The Standing Committee on Affiliates often invites affiliate leaders who have reported successful and innovative solutions to present at regional meetings, the Affiliate Leadership Meeting, and the Annual Convention. The survey also helps keep your affiliate’s link to NCTE current.
Beat Your Drum: If you are proud of your affiliate’s accomplishments during this academic year, apply for the Affiliate Excellence Award before the July 15 deadline. These awards honor the members of affiliates that meet NCTE’s standards of excellence.
Trumpet NCTE’s Revised Vision: Help circulate and support NCTE’s New Vision Statement announced in June. The new musical scale includes definitions of Access, Power, Agency, Affiliation, and Impact. The central motif sounds in the opening statement: “NCTE and its members will apply the power of language and literacy to actively pursue justice and equity for all students and the educators who serve them.”

Enjoy Some Symphonies At-Large (ESSA): Several states have posted their plans for implementing the “Every Student Succeeds Act” locally. Links to several plans appear on NCTE’s page titled ESSA Implementation in the States.

Plan for 2017 NCTE Annual Convention: Online registration and hotel links are now available for at the NCTE Annual Convention site. Make plans to attend November 17-20, 2016, in St. Louis.
